8 Valentine’s Day Crafts for Younger Kids

1.  Heart Buddies:8 Valentine's Day Crafts for Younger Kids - includes step by step instructions - Our Little House in the Country 1

What you need:

  • coloured paper/card – pink, red, purple, white
  • scissors
  • glue sticks
  • stapler
  • googly eyes
  • pipe cleaners

Toilet Roll Valentine's Day Love Bug Craft for Kids - Our Little House in the Country

What you do:

  • cut out a large heart – the easiest way to do this is to fold a piece of paper in half and draw half a heart shape out from the centre fold and cut along the line – unfold, voila – a heart!
  • cut out a number of hearts of various sizes – two feet, two hands, a nose and two antennae
  • cut four long strips of white card and fold concertina-like so that you create springy arms and legs
  • glue or staple hearts onto one end of each limb
  • staple or glue the arms and legs to your large heart (the body)
  • stick on two googly eyes and a heart shaped nose
  • curl two pipe cleaners around a pencil to create springs for antenna
  • staple smaller hearts on the end of each pipe cleaner, then attach to the body
  • using a red marker or as we did, red glitter glue draw a mouth and other details!
  • hang up and enjoy!

A super quick and easy Valentine’s Day treat (and a way of using up any left over candy canes)!

 

What you need:

  • candy canes
  • googly eyes
  • pipe cleaners or ribbon
  • paper or card
  • tape
  • marker or glitter glue

 

What you do:

  • wrap a pipe cleaner or ribbon around two candy canes, sticking them together.
  • stick two Google eyes onto the candy cane.
  • cut out two hearts and glue together to make wings.
  • stick wings onto candy canes using double sided tape or tape folded over
  • we added a couple of hearts and a mouth using red glitter glue!

We made Lola the Love Bug Butterfly a couple of weeks ago, and today we made more and added them to cards!

What you need:

  • toilet rolls
  • paint – pink or red
  • paper – red, pink, purple
  • googly eyes
  • glue
  • pipe cleaners
  • sellotape

  • paint the tubes pink or red and leave to dry – may need two coats
  • cut lots of various sized hearts out – small, medium, and 2 large hearts
  • glue a medium sized heart onto the top half of the tube as a head
  • glue two googly eyes onto the heart face
  • curl two pipe cleaners by winding them around your finger to make a spring shape
  • attach a heart on to each pipecleaner using tape and attach to the inside of the tube
  • stick two large hearts on to the back of the tube as wings
  • glue lots of small hearts on to the body of the butterfly
  • draw a mouth onto the face.
  • fold a sheet of card in half to make a card
  • glue your love bug onto the front of the card
  • give your little love bug a name!

What you need:

  • tissue paper – variety of colours
  • card or paper
  • glue
  • scissors

  • cut out a large heart
  • tear up lots of pieces of tissue paper
  • scrunch the pieces into loose balls
  • cover the heart with glue
  • tick the scrunched up tissue paper onto the heart
  • the hearts can then be glued onto a card

What you need:

  • coloured card or paper
  • patterned paper – wrapping paper, gift bags, magazines, scrapbooking paper etc – whatever you have to hand
  • glue
  • scissors

What you do:

  • fold a piece of paper or card in half to make a card
  • cut out lots of hearts from the patterned paper – lots of different sizes
  • arrange the hearts on the card
  • glue in place
  • send to you Valentine, maybe include a rhyme!!

What you need:

  • coloured card or paper
  • patterned paper – wrapping paper, gift bags, magazines, scrapbooking paper etc – whatever you have to hand
  • glue
  • scissors

What you do:

  • fold a piece of paper or card in half to make a card
  • cut out lots of hearts from the patterned paper – lots of different sizes
  • fold all of the hearts in half (pattern side in) to create a crease
  • glue biggest heart in place on the card – a little glue along the crease
  • then glue each heart inside the next, gradually getting smaller
  • when the glue has dried fold up the side of each heart so that they look 3D
  • repeat again further down the card if desired

We love to make stained glass windows for all occasions such as our Snowmen and Christmas Trees

What you need:

  • paper or card
  • glue
  • tissue paper
  • scissors

What you do:

  • draw a large heart
  • draw design or pattern on the heart
  • cut out the pieces you wish to cover with tissue paper
  • glue all around the edges
  • stick tissue paper onto each “gap” in the heart.
  • use a variety of colours
  • when we were finished we cut out our hearts fully using a decorative edged sheers and also trimmed the edges with red glitter glue!
  • display on windows for full effect

What you need:

  • coloured card or paper
  • paper straws
  • patterned paper
  • glue scissors
  • glitter or glitter glue

  • fold a sheet of paper or card in half to make a card
  • cut out a number of hearts from the patterned paper
  • cut out 2 leaf shapes
  • cut a straw in half
  • glue the hearts/petals onto the card in a flower shape
  • stick the straw onto the card as the stem
  • attach two leaves along the stem
  • we used red glitter glue to make the centre of our flower but you could just use a circle of paper or glue and normal glitter
  • send to your loved one!
