31 October Journaling Prompts — Free Printable
Free Printable of the Week — 4 October 2026
Sometimes all it takes is one good question to get us thinking.
For this week’s free printable, I’ve put together 31 October journaling prompts — a collection of thoughtful, sometimes quirky questions about home, ordinary life, memories, relationships, attention, getting older, the season we’re in and some of the little things we don’t always stop long enough to think about.
Despite the October title, this isn’t a challenge and there’s absolutely no expectation that you should complete one prompt every day. Choose the questions that catch your attention. Ignore the ones that don’t. Write for five minutes or fill several pages. Come back to them later in the year if you like.
I’ve also included a second printable page to help if you’ve ever read a journal prompt, stared at the blank page and thought, Well… now what do I write?
Together, the two pages are designed to help you begin with a question and then follow the thought wherever it happens to take you.

31 October Journaling Prompts
31 questions. No schedule. No rules. Just somewhere interesting to begin.
The first printable contains all 31 prompts.
Some are connected to October and the changing season; others wander into home, memories, relationships, time, attention, pleasure, change and ordinary life.
You don’t need to work through them in order. Simply choose one that makes you pause — particularly the questions that make you immediately think, Oh, I know exactly what I’d write about that.
Take the Prompt a Little Further
Sometimes choosing the question is the easy part. Knowing where to go with your answer can be a little harder.
So I’ve created a second reusable page to help you explore any of the 31 prompts a little more deeply.
It gently takes you through five stages:
First Thoughts — the words, images, memories or feelings that immediately come to mind.
The Story Behind It — the person, place, moment or experience connected with your answer.
Why This Matters — why this particular question may have caught your attention today.
What I’m Noticing — something you might be enjoying, missing, questioning, wanting or perhaps ready to let go of.
Into Ordinary Life — anything you might like to do, change, remember, appreciate or make a little more room for.
You certainly don’t have to fill every box. They’re simply there when you need a little help getting beyond that first sentence.
Print this page as often as you like and use it with whichever prompts speak to you.

How to Use Your October Journaling Pages
There really isn’t a right way to use these.
You could choose a prompt with your morning coffee, spend ten quiet minutes writing before bed, pick one whenever you feel like getting your thoughts onto paper, or simply keep the pages tucked into your journal or seasonal binder for whenever you need them.
You don’t have to complete all 31.
You don’t have to write something profound.
And you certainly don’t have to start on October 1.
A few honest lines about an ordinary part of your life are more than enough.
A Little Journaling Idea for October
If you’re not accustomed to journaling, try not to think about what you should write.
Choose a question that makes you curious. Write down your immediate answer, even if it’s only a sentence. Then ask yourself what memory, story or feeling sits underneath it.
Sometimes that’s where the interesting part begins.
And if you get stuck, that’s exactly what the second printable is there for.
