For me, summer has never really been about big plans.
Of course, there have been holidays over the years — some lovely ones, some unforgettable ones — but when I think back on summers gone by, what stands out most isn’t the big days out or the trips away.
It’s the small, ordinary moments.
The slow days at home.
The long stretches of light.
The feeling that there was time — endless time, somehow — to just be.
Years ago, when my children were small and I was at home with them, summer felt wide open. We built forts in the garden, set up paddling pools at the bottom of slides, painted with water guns, and even built a treehouse. We got our first chickens. We filled our days with simple, creative, often slightly chaotic little moments.
And looking back now, those are the memories that stayed.
Not because they were planned or perfect — but because they were slow, simple, and ours.
These days, summer looks a little different. Life is fuller, busier in some ways, quieter in others. But the heart of it hasn’t really changed.
For me, it’s still about noticing the season.
Making space for it.
Letting it soften the edges of everyday life.
