Lot’s of Outdoor Fun with Globber My Free 2C Scooter (Review)

My kids love scootering and earlier this week we were lucky enough to receive the new Globber My Free 2C scooter to test and review.  If you’re looking for a really great scooter for younger children then this may be for you!*NEW* Globber 'My Free' 2C Scooter - Green

What is the Globber My Free 2C scooter?

Designed for the youngest riders, My Free is ideal to develop balance and help your child learn to ride and master the scooter, with its low foot rest, steering lock, the height-adjustable handlebars and power-assisted steering.

Specs Include:

(from http://www.greenoversports.com/)

  • Safe learning – Steering lock button on front of deck (safe and simple handling) for steering locking system to make learning easier.
  • Height adjustable T-BAR handlebar which can be adjusted to 3 height positions as the child grows.
  • Performance – X-CROSS deck design, strengthens the deck structure and improves directional turning performance to the T-BAR handlebar.
  • User comfort – Low deck for better stability which improves the child’s performance. Less tiredness means longer riding times.
  • Ergonomics of the handles – Handlebar grips made from durable, dual-injection material, for better comfort and more resistance.
  • Safety and life span – Long and covered rear brake which allows better braking performance while preserving the back wheel.
  • Assisted steering – The directional pivots (supports on the front wheels) are mounted on ball bearings for easier assisted steering.

Our thoughts:

This is a really great looking scooter! We were given the lime green model and it’s perfect for both D (almost 6y.o. boy) and O (3 1/2 y.o.girl) .  First thing I noticed about this scooter is that it seems to be more sturdy than our other scooters, it is also heavier but not too heavy as to be cumbersome.  The scooter comes in two pieces and is very easy to assemble by simply clicking into place.  I have one little warning about the click mechanism – it seems a little fragile, I would be afraid that it was regularly disassembled it might weaken and or break.  I love the chunky handle bars and the wide deck and the wheels are really cool according to my children!
O was the first to try out the scooter and she absolutely loves it.  It is super smooth, doesn’t wobble, speeds along nicely and seems really safe even for my adventurous and fearless daredevil 3.5 year old daughter!  She found it really easy to maneuver and steer, something that has been tricky with her other scooter.  I didn’t need to lock the steering as she found it really easy to balance on it and it steers really well as she shifts her weight on it, described as intuitive steering by Globber (the steering can be locked by a little button on the front for younger kids who are still learning to balance on a scooter and who may not be quite ready to independently steer the scooter)
Next it was my son D’s turn to test it out.  We readjusted the handle bars, heightening them so that it fit him perfectly.  He remarked that it was really comfortable to use as it is shaped to fit the bottom of a child’s foot rather than being completely flat and rigid. He also loved the rear break, it’s very effective and easy to use.  He also loved that it looks like a “teenager” scooter – it looks like a “real” scooter not a kiddy one!  One downside may be the price, with a RRP of £54.99 I think it is a little pricey but not overly so as it is very good quality and by far the most well designed and sturdiest of our scooters.  It is probably worth it as it looks really great, moves really well, is safe and durable and perfect for 3 to 6 year olds.
Overall we really love this scooter, we will be even taking it on holidays to France with us in a few weeks for scootering around the campsite!  Would I buy it?  My simple answer is YES!  Would I recommend this scooter for younger kids learning to scoot – absolutely!
Why not take a look at this short You Tube video of the scooter in action for further information!
Hope that you found our review useful!
Happy scootering!
